- Abstract: Angiogenesis is crucial for tumor development and metastasis. Regulation of tumor-associated angiogenesis appears to be a promising strategy for limiting the growth of tumours. The tumor microenvironment encompasses several signalling molecules and pathways that modulate angiogenesis including long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). LncRNAs are a group of endogenous RNAs that are longer than 200 nucleotides in length. Growing evidence suggests that LncRNAs may serve as helpful diagnostic and therapeutic targets for aid in the development of anti-angiogenic drugs. Understanding the role of LncRNAs and their processes of functions could aid to enhance the finding of tumor angiogenesis biological properties. Some LncRNAs have an anti-angiogenic effect, whereas others have a pro-angiogenic effect. This review provides a comprehensive overview of LncRNAs, including their biogenesis, classification, transcriptional regulation, and crucial role in tumour angiogenesis. In summary, LncRNAs show a tremendous potential to explore as novel prognostic indicators as well as new therapeutic targets as anti-angiogenic agents. Highlights: Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) biogenesis and classification are highlighted. LncRNAs are involved in the regulation of tumor angiogenesis. Tumor cells express LncRNAs to activate neighbouring cells via miRNA interaction.
