Abstract

ABSTRACT: Given the changing composition of faculty, intergenerational workforce needs and skill sets must be taken into account when creating mentoring relationships. The traditional nature of academia lends itself to an intergenerational environment of Millennials in novice positions, while tenured faculty, typically GenXers and Boomers, act as mentors in the academy. This article presents the Intergenerational Mentoring model, one that adapts intergenerational collaboration from reverse mentorship models that encourage knowledge sharing. This model acknowledges the skills each generation brings to the academic environment, embracing the motto, 'Everyone leads, Everyone learns.'
