Abstract

Abstract: We conducted a paired case-control study of American Dental Association/Virginia Dental Association membership data 2009–2011. A total of 142 responses were obtained: 46 cases (nonrenewed, out of 337) and 96 controls (renewed, out of 337). Main reasons for nonrenews were respondents' perception of dues being expensive and the competition. The member benefits such as participation in legislative effort, subscription to journals and publications, and discount to continuing education influenced the membership renewal the most: The respondents desired flexible options in membership, more transparency on where the dues were used, and flexible billing process.
