- Abstract: For many years, suspension filtration has been widely used in sugar industry. The main disadvantage in its use is the increase in sediment stability associated with the formation and growth of a filter layer on the surface of the filter cloth during filtration. That is why the accurate determination of the filtration rate for the filtration of suspensions based on simple laboratory tests, especially depending on the pressure, the specific resistance of the layer of filter sediment, is a key factor for the analysis of the efficiency of filtration operations. The purpose of this research is the development of a device for determining the speed of filtration of suspensions of carbonated juices under pressure, which will allow to reproduce real production conditions in relation to temperature, pressure, thickness of the sediment layer, type of filter material, and mode of filtration during research. The design and principle of operation of an improved device for determining the filtration rate of carbonated juices under pressure, which is based on the principle of filtration with constant pressure, was given in our manuscript. A dependence was obtained for determining the rate of filtration under pressure. Some inconsistencies in the indicators of the filtration coefficient and the speed of filtration under pressure were established. A comparison was made for data obtained of the filtration rate under pressure of the unfiltered juice of the 1st carbonation, contained in the laboratory during the experiment, with the indicators obtained in production conditions, which showed a high similarity of the results. The dependences of the sedimentation and filtration properties of the defecosaturated juice and the turbidity of the filtrate on the consumption of lime, as well as the regression equation in its natural form, were obtained. Using the developed device, the rational consumption of lime was established for the defecosaturation process, which provides an effective ability to separate. Research was also conducted to determine the speed of filtration under pressure of samples of thick juices with and without adding of flocculant, which showed an increase in the filtration speed with the use of flocculant.
