- Abstract: The current study is a replication study of Farrell and Walker's (e.g., 2019) study on Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory and goals. Replication is an essential part of science as it provides confidence in the robustness of the results. The current study progresses the literature further by including a sample of individuals with at least one tattoo. Tattoos are becoming more mainstream so it is unclear whether this detail will influence the results. It was hypothesised that BAS would predict approach goals, BIS would predict approach and avoidance goals, and defensive fight would predict approach and avoidance goals. Using 151 adults, it was found that BAS Goal-Drive Persistence and impulsivity predicted approach goals, BIS predicted avoidance goals but not approach goals, and defensive fight predicted both approach and avoidance goals. These results are compared with the original study to provide further clarity.
