First record of Macrohomotoma gladiata Kuwayama, 1908 (Hemiptera: Psylloidea: Homotomidae), a pest of ornamental Ficus microcarpa L. f., in Morocco. (29th July 2021)

Abstract

Abstract: Ficus microcarpa L. f. (Moraceae) is a popular ornamental plant that grows in many urban zones in Morocco. The psyllid Macrohomotoma gladiata (Kuwayama, 1908) was found for the first time from Morocco, in August 2019, on 21 ornamental Ficus microcarpa L. f. trees in the urban area of Kénitra, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. The new psyllid caused serious damage on leaves and twigs of this host plant. Rolled leaves at the tip of the twigs, white and woolly waxy secretions were also observed in the infested trees. This first record of M . gladiata in Morocco, although still regarding a limited geographic area, represents a serious threat to Ficus in the country. A morphological description of this new pest is given. (Moraceae) est une plante ornementale populaire qui pousse dans de nombreuses zones urbaines au Maroc. Le psylle Macrohomotoma gladiata (Kuwayama, 1908) a été signalé pour la première fois au Maroc en août 2019, sur vingt‐et‐un Ficus microcarpa L. f. ornementaux dans la zone urbaine de Kénitra, sur la côte atlantique du Maroc. Ce nouveau psylle a causé d'importants dégâts sur les feuilles et rameaux de la plante hôte. Des enroulements foliaires à l'extrémité des rameaux ainsi que des sécrétions cireuses blanches à l'aspect laineux ont été observés sur les arbres infestés. Ce premier signalement de M . gladiata au Maroc, bien que concernant une zone encore géographiquement limitée, représente une menace sérieuse pour les Ficus dans le pays. Une description morphologique de cet organisme nuisible est présentée dans cet article. (Moraceae) ‐ популярное декоративное растение, произрастающее во многих городских зонах Марокко. Листоблошка Macrohomotoma gladiata (Kuwayama, 1908) была впервые обнаружена в Марокко в августе 2019 года на 21 декоративном дереве Ficus microcarpa L. f. в городской зоне Кенитра, на Атлантическом побережье Марокко. Новая листоблошка вызвала серьезные повреждения на листьях и побегах растения‐хозяина. На кончиках веток зараженных деревьев также наблюдались свернутые листья и белые шерстянистые восковые выделения. Это первая регистрация M . gladiata в Марокко, вредитель, хоть и относится к ограниченной географической области, представляет серьезную угрозу для фикусов в стране. Приводится морфологическое описание этого нового вредного организма.
