- Abstract: This novel statistical investigation is on the tensile strength of high alloy steel (EN31) and carbon steel (EN09). The carbon steel (EN09) is considered as a comparison group whereas high alloy steel (EN31) as a control group. With the help of literature, 20 samples per group were prepared with g-statistical power of 80 %. CNC laser cutting method is utilized to prepare tensile specimens as per ASTM standards (E8). The tensile strengths are measured using a universal testing machine (UTM). Based on the independent t -test descriptive statistical analysis, it is observed that there exists a significant difference in the tensile characteristics between high alloy steel (EN31) and carbon steel (EN09) with a significance value of 0.024 (P < 0.05). From the tensile strength testing results, alloy steel (EN31) exhibited an average of 501.25 MPa whereas carbon steel exhibited an average of 670.05 MPa. Within the limitations of this study, it is found that carbon steel (EN 09) has good tensile strength when compared with alloy steel.
