- Abstract: The design of electrocatalysts with excellent activity and stability for overall water splitting is highly desirable, and remains a challenge. Constructing heterojunctions onto the same substrate is beneficial for the integration of a water-splitting reaction. Herein, self-supported IrNi/Ni(OH)2 @PPy and IrNi/Ni(OH)2 @FeOOH are fabricated by coupling polypyrrole (PPy) and iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) on IrNi/Ni(OH)2 nanosheets array, respectively. Benefiting from the nanosheet structure, composition, and heterogeneous interface, the as-constructed IrNi/Ni(OH)2 @PPy and IrNi/Ni(OH)2 @FeOOH catalysts can efficiently drive the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction, respectively. Moreover, the electrolyzer consisting of IrNi/Ni(OH)2 @PPy and IrNi/Ni(OH)2 @FeOOH for water splitting requires only a low cell voltage of 1.49 V to deliver 10 mA cm −2 . This study provides a useful strategy for constructing efficient electrocatalysts by synergistic composition modulation and interface engineering.
