- Graphical abstract: Abstract: A new isophorone-based chemodosimeter was designed and synthesized for a rapid, ratiometric and selective detection of Hg 2+ ions in buffer solution. Hg 2+ ions promoted the deprotection of the dithioacetal group of probe SWJT-11, leading to a red shift from 574 nm to 636 nm in its fluorescence spectrum, which also accompanied the change of solution color from yellow to pale yellow. The probe toward Hg 2+ ions presented a good linear relationship in the 0–10.0 μM concentration range, with the LOD of 0.2 μM. In addition, the probe has been successfully used to detect Hg 2+ ions in test strips and Chinese medicinal materials.
