- Abstract: In this paper, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) was tested on a carbon fibre-reinforced carbon composite (C–C). The effect of three parameters of the EDM process (i.e., pulse current, pulse voltage, and pulse duration) was examined on output factors, including surface quality, heat-affected zone, dimensional accuracy, and machining speed. To this end, SEM images of the surface of cavities were taken. The best surface quality and dimensional accuracy were achieved by low pulse current and low pulse duration. However, the effect of pulse voltage on outputs was minimal and, thus, could be ignored. Experimental results showed that pulse current and pulse duration have significant impacts on outputs, and the EDM process has the capability to machine hard materials such as c-c composites.
