- Highlights: The dynamic evaporation processes of fuel droplets in steep temperature gradient formed by a spray flame were evaluated using high-speed interferometric laser imaging for droplet sizing. The evaporation behavior of fuel droplets correlated with the d -square law, even for fuel droplets of several tens of micrometers in a spray combustion field. The evaporation coefficient of the surrogate fuel was larger than that of kerosene, regardless of the fuel supply rates. Abstract: The dynamic evaporation processes of fuel droplets in a steep temperature gradient formed by a spray flame were evaluated through high-speed interferometric laser imaging for droplet sizing (Hs-ILIDS). To examine the time history of the evaporation processes of droplets of kerosene and surrogate fuel, comprising of n-dodecane (C12 H26 ), iso -octane (C8 H18 ), and toluene (C7 H8 ), evaporation coefficients were obtained for different fuel supply rates. The results indicate that the evaporation behavior of fuel droplets correlated with the d -square law, even for fuel droplets of several tens of micrometers in the spray combustion field. The evaporation coefficient of the surrogate fuel was larger than that of kerosene, regardless of the fuel supply rate.
