- Abstract: Molybdenum sulfide (MoS2 )-based lamellar membranes have shown great potential in treatment of effluent wastewater, desalination of seawater, separation of gases, storage of energy, and fuel cell due to their mono-layer thickness, excellent functionality, great mechanical strength, and resistance against chemical. This review highlights the latest development on MoS2 -based lamellar membranes. Importance is given on its current manufacture methods and discuss their advantages and drawbacks. Further, uses of MoS2 -based lamellar membranes in water desalination, gas separation, exchange of proton in fuel cell, and separator in devices of energy storage are discussed. Finally, their benefits, limitations, and future challenges are summarized in detail. Graphical Abstract: ga1 Highlights: Fabrication methods for MoS2 -based lamellar membranes. MoS2 -based lamellar membranes for water desalination. MoS2 -based membranes for gas separation. MoS2 -based membranes for proton exchange and energy storage devices.
