Abstract

Highlights: The monitoring system was proposed to monitor soil displacement in real-time. The feasibility of the measurement unit cell was verified by the calibration experiment. The reliability of the monitoring system was validated by the model experiment adopting X-ray visualization. Abstract: Advanced measurement technology is of great significance to the prevention of geological disasters and engineering construction and simultaneously promotes geotechnical engineering development. This paper reports a novel soil displacement monitoring system based on multiple measurement unit cells. A modularized structure and corresponding positioning algorithm were proposed to monitor the 3D displacement of soil. The monitoring software was developed to dynamically display deformation. Then, a calibration experiment was performed to verify the feasibility of the measurement unit cell. Furthermore, a model experiment adopting X-ray visualization was performed to validate the reliability of the soil displacement monitoring system. It is determined that the proposed soil displacement monitoring system has a mm-level accuracy and satisfies geotechnical engineering requirements.
