- Abstract : Evidence for mesh-related surgical complications and chronic pain after umbilical hernia repair is only sparsely reported. The present study used economic claims and compensation as a proxy for mesh-related complications and chronic pain. Mesh-related complications and chronic pain may be important adverse long-term outcomes following umbilical hernia repair. Mesh-related complications were an important reason for granting economic compensation.
