- Graphical abstract: Abstract: The novelty of the proposed level-set approach to grain growth resides in the explicit consideration of structural interfacial elements of the microstructure. The extensions allow to consider anisotropic grain boundary energies and triple junction drag in polycrystalline materials. The simulated predictions were compared to analytical expressions for the growth rate of grains under the influence of a finite triple junction mobility with excellent agreement.
