- Abstract: In this study, carbon quantum dots (CDs) from biomass waste were successfully incorporated on Bi2 WO6 nanosheets. The in-situ method was implemented to improve coupling and electron transfer between CDs and Bi2 WO6 . The band gap of 2.78 eV for Bi2 WO6 decreased to 2.52 eV for CDs modified Bi2 WO6 photocatalyst. For CDs modified Bi2 WO6, the optical absorbance in the visible light and charge separation, thereby electron mobility, were enhanced. The activity and selectivity for glyceraldehyde formation increased in presence of CDs modified Bi2 WO6 compared to that for bare Bi2 WO6 . The highest production of glyceraldehyde was 12.1 mmol/L with a selectivity of 80 %. It was followed by formation of glycolic acid at 2.2 mmol/L.
