- Abstract: The governing equation of a cylindrical shell with radial stiffness and damping constraints is established and then solved. The bifurcation conditions of buckling are obtained given boundary conditions and consistency conditions. The critical loads and buckling modes are analyzed. The results reveal both radial stiffness and damping constraints will enhance the anti-buckling capacity of cylindrical shells, and the capacity of the former is better than that of the latter. The radial stiffness and damping values will have a great influence on the critical load when they are small but do not have much influence on the critical load with increasing their values.
