Abstract

ABSTRACT: To solve the flatness problem in the production of hot wide strip temper mill with small-diameter work rolls, a finite element model of roll-strip coupling is established and the model accuracy is verified by comparison with the measured data. By calculating the contact pressure between rolls and the loaded roll gap profile, the effects of process parameters on the flatness adjusting are analysed. When adopting the positive bending force or increasing bending force to improve the edge wave, the strip is prone to the secondary defect of quarter buckle, especially for wide strips. To reduce the high-order deflection of the slender work roll and reduce the generation of quarter buckle, the temper mill should not use smaller rolling force. By optimising the back-up roll contour and the rolling force, the flatness adjusting performance of Handan Steel's hot temper mill was improved, and the flatness defective rate was reduced.
