Abstract

Abstract : Excellence in neurologic practice and research does not have a gender. Yet women neurologists historically earn less, receive fewer awards for similar achievements, are less likely to serve on journal editorial boards, and are underrepresented as plenary speakers compared with their colleagues who are men. 1-4 Efforts to close these gaps show that success is possible. As one example, the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Gender Disparity Task Force report released in 2017 marked a turning point in gender representation in the organization. The number of women speakers at AAN conferences and in AAN leadership roles has risen since 2017 and now reflects the demographics of neurologists in the United States. 3 Has neurology as a field now done enough?
