- Abstract : Objectives: This trial assessed the efficacy and vascular responses of combination therapy of statin with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor in hypertensive hypercholesterolemic patients. Methods: This was a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of atorvastatin alone, captopril alone and atorvastatin combined with captopril in 95 hypertensive hypercholesterolemic patients for 2 months with 2 months washout. Results: Captopril alone did not significantly change C-reactive protein levels and lipoproteins, however, atorvastatin and atorvastatin combined with captopril significantly changed those, and atorvastatin combined with captopril showed significantly more improvement than captopril alone (P < 0.01, respectively).Atorvastatin, captopril and atorvastatin combined with captopril all could improved the percent flow-mediated dilator response to hyperemia (6.9 ± 0.7 vs 6.2 ± 0.3 vs 10.2 ± 0.5, P < 0.01); reduced plasma levels of malondialdehyde (umol/L) (1.9 ± 0.1 vs 1.6 ± 0.2 vs 0.8 ± 0.01, P < 0.01), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (pg/mL) (179 ± 6 vs 167 ± 8 vs 127 ± 3, P < 0.01) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 antigen (ng/mL) (68 ± 2 vs 70 ± 5 vs 43 ± 6, P < 0.01), and the effect of atorvastatin combined with captopril was more than captopril alone or atorvastatin alone (P < 0.01, respectively). Conclusions: Atorvastatin combined with captopril significantly improves endothelial function and reduces inflammatory markers in hypertensiveAbstract : Objectives: This trial assessed the efficacy and vascular responses of combination therapy of statin with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor in hypertensive hypercholesterolemic patients.
