- Abstract: In order to quickly analyze discontinuity or periodic structure transmission characteristics, the combination of finite‐difference time‐domain method and singular value decomposition is applied. A double‐ridge waveguide (WRD) and its improvement are studied. According to the simulation results about propagation constant and eigen‐functions, the transmission performance of WRD can be improved by adding fillets and enlarging the radius of fillets or filling dielectric material. Guided wave and mode characteristics of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) are also researched in detail. Simulation carried out for different periodic SIW structures shows that due to the periodic gap, electromagnetic energy leakage is present in the metallized via waveguide wall of the SIW. It is significant for the future improvement and application of SIW structure.
