Abstract: The long-term durability of sewage systems is an essential aspect of environmental protection and the sanitary safety of society. Consequently, ensuring the durability of concrete sewer pipes is a major concern for engineers and authorities. One of the essential features of the durability of concrete used in sewage systems is acid resistance. The acid attack can be caused by aggressive wastewater and the sewer atmosphere. For this reason, it is important to determine the durability of concrete under various corrosive conditions. This paper evaluates the performance and durability of concrete after a pure chemical acid attack. The scope of this work is focused on the kinetics and damage zones of concrete due to acid attacks. The impact of mechanical abrasion was also assessed. The main part of the work is devoted to comparing damage zones of three types of concretes – ordinary Portland cement concrete (OPC), sulfate resistant concrete (SRC), and ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). The work also discusses the suitability of individual parameters, e.g., pH value, amount of leached calcium and acid consumption, for corrosion determination and acceleration of testing procedure.
