- Abstract: Friction Stir Welding is emerging technology to join similar as well as dissimilar metals by application of heat and pressure. In this welding technology, non-consumable rotating tool move along the meting surface of the metal plates. Here, six different unique tool features (raised & recessed) were used to fulfill the objective of improvement in tensile strength and hardness properties of weld zone. Each individual tool made from H13 die steel was used to weld 6061aluminum alloy plate at 1200 rpm and 81 mm /min tool travel speed. Experimental results show that raised shoulder feature with square pin profile gave sound and defect free weld
