Abstract

Abstract : This study explored the teaching experiences of a group of academics at a U.K. university during the pandemic. A plethora of COVID-19 studies have focused on the educational strategies adopted during this time but few focused on the emotions of educators, despite their importance to educator motivation. To address this gap, our study focused on the emotional responses of educators during the teaching period of the pandemic. Using a collaborative autoethnographic methodology, we analyse and discuss these mixed emotions in relation to our teaching experiences, drawing on a framework – the Geneva Wheel of Emotion – with respect to the valence, control, and intensity of emotions. The novelty of this study is in highlighting the characteristics of educational environments that support the emotional resilience of educators.
