- Abstract: Human comfort and health are closely related, but research combining these concepts and analysing their dynamic characteristics and relationships is lacking. Given this, we calculated the heat losses of each part and the overall body at different times at different temperatures and detected concentration of secreted immunoglobulin E in saliva related to respiratory immunity. Our results showed that the four types of heat losses decreased with increasing exposure time. After exposure to neutral heat (24 °C) for 5 min, the dimensionless concentration of S-IgE increased by 91.1% and 96.6%, compared with the 27 °C and 30 °C conditions respectively. At 24 °C, the concentration of exposure for 60 min was 42.1% lower than that at 5 min. The S-IgE concentration was negatively correlated with proximal the convection, radiation, and respiration heat losses (p < 0.05), and the contribution level of convection heat loss was the largest. In addition, heat losses in the proximal parts were larger than those in the distal parts and contributed more to S-IgE concentration. Our conclusions suggested that there are possible methods may improve oral mucosal immunity, including short-term and appropriate cold and heat exposures as well as the warmth of the proximal parts, especially the forehead. Highlights: Dynamic features and relationships between heat losses and S-IgE concentration were analysed. Effect of air temperature on health should consider stress intensity, time, and human adaptation. The convective and radiant heat losses contribute greatly to S-IgE concentration in saliva. Warmth of the proximal parts may be more important for improving the respiratory mucosal immunity. A thermal environment with variable temperatures within 30min may be benefit to the human health. … (more)
