Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this research was to examine the effects on students' critical thinking skills on integral subject when the lecturer presented problems using different scales on the X and Y axis. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects were 76 mathematics education students who attended Calculus 2 class. In this study, the 76 students were given four questions to solve and then their critical thinking ability scores were sought. Based on this score, 6 people were selected to be interviewed to find out more deeper about how students' critical thinking skills in various categories. Data were collected through documentation of student's work, observation, and interviews. The results showed an effect on students, that is, they met almost all indicators of critical thinking skills. In addition, students become more careful and thorough in solving the problems given. The critical thinking skills arises because the problems presented to students are related to several concepts in the previous materials.
