Abstract

Brazil is marked by a significant deficit in access to sewage collection and treatment. Currently, the sector has received government attention, the National Basic Sanitation Policy brings relevant innovations, among them, the new law seeks to attract private investment and allow the gradual increase in privatisation of the sector. The present study aims to corroborate that basic sanitation services are more efficient and there is a universalisation when provided by concessionaires, through bidding. The method used was quantitative research, using data obtained from the National Health Information System, in which data from the municipalities of Mato Grosso, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo 2019 were analysed provision of services of this nature by the private sector. Since they are performed by companies that have the skills to perform it there is greater transparency in the provision of the service, corroborating the viability of this form of service provision.
