- Abstract : One- and two-dimensional fringe patterns were fabricated on nanostructured porous silicon (nanoPS) layers. These patterns are created by phase-mask laser interference using single pulses of an ultraviolet excimer laser. The method constitutes a single-step and flexible approach to produce a large variety of patterns formed by alternate regions of almost untransformed nanoPS and regions where its surface has melted and transformed into Si nanoparticles. Finally, direct binding (with no previous functionalization) of human mesenchymal stem cells to the different patterns is analyzed aiming at using these structures for biological applications.
