- Abstract: Recently the development and population of electric vehicles (EV) has increased significantly in line with the issue of reducing air pollution and fossil fuel dependence. EV uses batteries as the main energy source and Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are more widely used by the consideration of having high energy, life cycle, and power density. As same as the ITS electric scooter which uses a Li-ion type battery pack with an operating voltage of 100 V 3.2 kWH. A battery charger has a crucial role in charging a battery pack. In this article, design, consideration, and implementation of an off-board Li-ion battery charger has been described. As a result of the proposed charger experimental test, it was capable for portable charger and producing power output up to 2.5 kW, power quality was improved through the power factor correction (PFC) which had the value above 0.75, charger efficiency was above 87%, programmable setting, temperature cut-off, and could be integrated with a battery management system (BMS) through CAN communication. The charger is expected to be reliably used for EV especially ITS electric scooters by using those features.
