- Abstract : In this work we follow electrochemically the synthesis of K2 Se in liquid ammonia at -55 °C. Elemental potassium is dissolved in liquid ammonia, giving K + ions and the typically dark blue solvated electrons. A stoichiometric amount of elemental selenium is added to the solution, which causes a decrease with time of the solvated electron concentration due to Se 2- formation. The decrease of solvated electron concentration is measured very accurately by means of cyclic voltammetry at the surface of a Pt microelectrode.
