- Hemispherical dynamic pressure motors (HDPMs) are used in high precision gyroscope instruments, and the aerodynamic characteristics of gas in bearing clearance have an important influence on gyroscope accuracy. Due to the multiscale structure of the gas domain, there are few valuable studies on the aerodynamic characteristics of the HDPM. In this paper, a calculation model of HDPM was established based on similarity theory and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method, which was solved under different conditions. The results indicate that the load force and resistance torque of the gas film are inversely proportional to the clearance size between the stator and rotor, which are also significantly related to the gas viscosity and the type of pressure outlet. This work can provide a method for the investigation of dynamic pressure characteristics for the multiscale fluid, and can also provide a reference for the optimal design and fault diagnosis of dynamic pressure motors.
