Abstract

There has been growing literature related to performance analysis of the mutual fund (MF) industry concentrating on the non-parametric approach. Because of the practical and academic importance of mutual funds, it is becoming a vital area of research in finance. The present study seeks to gauge the efficiency of 40 equity mutual fund schemes that belong to seven asset management companies categorised as bank-sponsored under AMFI in India. The study uses data envelopment analysis technique as the prime tool for knowing the efficiency of selected schemes. The study discovers only seven schemes as efficient out of total sampled schemes and in which Canara Robeco Asset Management Co. Ltd offers the maximum number of efficient schemes as compared to others. The present study will offer direction for future research and will also provide individual investors with a guideline for selecting funds.
