- Abstract: Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing is a novel technique that involves building metal parts layer by layer. In comparison to powder-based AM techniques, it has greater deposition rates and faster production rates, which makes it an ideal technique for large-scale applications in several industries. This research investigates the influence of process parameters on gas tungsten arc welding-based WAAM using Inconel alloy 625 wires. Analysis of variance and desirability function analysis was used to find the effects of current, torch speed, and gas flow rate on the responses including ultimate tensile strength and microhardness. In the experimented process parameter range, torch speed and current had the greatest influence on responses. Further, a reduction in torch travel speed and a higher current caused a higher ultimate tensile strength (688 MPa) as well as a greater microhardness (270 Hv). The microstructure of the as-deposited wall was observed by scanning electron micrographs. There was no apparent boundary between the layers, indicating that the layers had fused completely without oxidation. The size and dispersion of the formations produced distinct zones. Results from these experiments help reduce lead-times and costs associated with parts restoration in the marine and petroleum industries.
