- Abstract: The multifunctional dendritic magnetic nanocarriers (DMNCs) have been prepared by chemical synthesis method. XRD analysis revealed the formation of highly crystalline single-phase Fe3 O4 nanoparticles. From TEM micrographs, it has been found that the DMNCs are roughly spherical in shape and average size about 10 nm. The growth of dendritic shell on Fe3 O4 nanoparticles is confirmed from FTIR spectroscopy, zeta-potential, and magnetization measurements. The layer-by-layer conjugation of amino acid (glycine) onto the surface of Fe3 O4 nanoparticles provide them functionalized exterior with high densities of carboxyl moiety for binding of anticancer drug, doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX). The release study showed pH-stimulated release of DOX from drug loaded DMNC in a cell-mimicking environment. Further, they do not exhibit toxicity towards cervical (HeLa) and breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines even after incubated with 2 mg/mL of particles for 24 h indicating their potential for biomedical applications.
