- Abstract: In this paper, computer graphics, isogeometric analysis and structural optimization methods are combined to study the shape optimization of free-form surfaces. The free-form surface is modeled parametrically using NURBS techniques. The particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to optimize the surface shape, using the total strain energy of the structure as the objective function and the control point coordinates as the optimization variables, to find the reasonable surface form with the minimum strain energy. Three examples are considered to highlight the accuracy and effectiveness of the developed method.
