- Abstract: High temperature chlorine corrosion tests of 904 L and 904 L:Ti alloys were carried out under N2 -2.6 vol% CO2 -1.3 vol% O2 -2700 vppm HCl gaseous environment at 600 °C, 700 °C and 800 °C for 55 h, respectively. The distribution of corrosion products and the corrosion process were analyzed by thermodynamic calculations of the relevant parameters for metal oxides and metal chlorides. The addition of 10 at% Ti changed the microstructure of 904 L austenite and promoted the formation of Ti-containing intermetallic compounds and oxide. The TiO2 /Cr2 O3 protective layer effectively improved the high temperature chlorine corrosion resistance of the 904 L:Ti alloy. Highlights: 904 L:Ti alloy with high chlorine corrosion resistance was obtained. Formation of intermetallic compounds containing element Ti. TiO2 /Cr2 O3 double-layer formed on 904 L:Ti surface. Corrosion products were predicted by thermodynamic calculation.
