Abstract

Abstract: Safe and clean water availability is one of the biggest concerns because of water contamination. Anthropogenic activities are chiefly responsible for water contamination, and hence, more research is being carried out across the world. Every year, bulks of research papers have been published in the discipline of water science and technology to ensure water security. In this study, a bibliometric study on the same subject has been performed to assess the published research papers on the basis of research publication number, and their citations which are available at the SCImago website. Data was analysed and presented to support the policy makers of the water area. From 1996 to 2019, India and the United States of America (USA) were selected to compare publication numbers, citations, and self-citations in the above subject. Rapid growth has been observed in research publications during the above duration. In India, the number of articles published was 225 in 1996, which has been increased to 1642 by year 2019. In the USA, the number of publications was 3050 in year 1996 and significantly increased till year 2011, after which there was a decrease in numbers. Since then, the number of publications has been increased again up to 8138. The increase in research production demonstrated that water science & technology have become the thrust area for today's research community.
