- Abstract: This paper proposes a developed honey badger algorithm (DHBA) to solve the optimal power flow (OPF) problem. DHBA is based on the concept of honey badger algorithm (HBA), which improves problem-solving ability. The improvement is based on two main aims. These are, respectively, to develop a robust HBA using the dynamic fitness-distance balance technique and to improve the honey-finding behavior of honey badgers with a new spiral movement in the HBA algorithm. In this paper, simulation applications are performed on two IEEE (30/57 bus) test systems through 7 case studies (with statistical analysis) to prove the efficiency and the robustness of the DHBA. The efficiency of the proposed DHBA is tested in these two power systems and the obtained results are compared with other methods published in the literature. The obtained test results have clearly demonstrated the DHBA algorithm's potential to solve the OPF problem compared to the standard HBA. Active power losses, one of the important results of the study, are calculated as 2.9062 MW with standard HBA and 2.853 MW with DHBA (for the IEEE 30 test bus system).
