- Abstract : Simple amino acids activated by the volcanic gas carbonyl sulfide can condense into peptides that then spontaneously assemble into amyloids. This suggests a plausible prebiotic relevance of peptide amyloids and has led to the discovery that they can template sequence‐selective, regioselective and stereoselective peptide synthesis. Depending on the environmental conditions, such amyloid templating can function in either complementary or self‐replicating mode. More information can be found in the Research Article by R. Riek, J. Greenwald, et al. (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202103841 ).
