Abstract

Abstract: Governments across the globe are searching for new methods to apply to policy work. New Public Governance (NPG) suggests the state's policy process has become more accessible to a broader range of policy actors including non‐state ones. Policy innovation labs speak to this turn to broadening inputs and to methodological experimentation. The focus of this article is to provide an overview of Canadian government policy innovation labs (GPILs) operating in this relatively new space. Despite the ascent of GPILs, they remain, especially in the Canadian context, much understudied. Exploring a select number of Canadian government policy labs operating at the federal, provincial and municipal levels, we provide some insights into their work. Sommaire: À travers le monde entier, les gouvernements cherchent de nouvelles méthodes à appliquer au travail d'élaboration des politiques. La nouvelle gouvernance publique (NGP) suggère que le processus d'élaboration des politiques gouvernementales est devenu mieux accessible à un plus vaste éventail d'acteurs politiques, y compris des acteurs non étatiques. Les laboratoires d'innovation en politiques témoignent de ce tournant vers l'élargissement des contributions et l'expérimentation méthodologique. Cet article vise à dresser un tableau des laboratoires d'innovation en politiques du gouvernement canadien (GPIL) fonctionnant dans cet espace relativement nouveau. Malgré leur essor, les GPIL restent très peu étudiés, surtout dans le contexte canadien. En étudiant un certain nombre de laboratoires d'innovation en politiques du gouvernement canadien qui travaillent aux niveaux fédéral, provincial et municipal, nous donnons un aperçu de leur travail.
