- ABSTRACT: Polymer blended hybrid composites originated from natural resources such as natural fibres and waste fillers have drawn considerable interest due to environmental, social and economic benefits. Alkali-treated cordia dichotoma fibre and granite powder have been reinforced into a prepared blended matrix. The hand layup technique was used to prepare a polymer blended hybrid composite. Polymer blended hybrid composite was prepared by reinforcing a constant cordia dichotoma fibre content of 20 wt. % with variable amounts of granite powder at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt. % respectively into a blended mixture matrix. The hybrid composites were subjected to determine the different mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural and impact. The results projected that granite powder could be evidenced as a good filler material for the betterment of composite's mechanical properties. Also, this filler was proved to have the decreasing trends of water absorption and chemical resistance. SEM morphology was performed to investigate the bonding and distribution of granite powder within the cordia dichotoma reinforced polymer blended composite. Besides, the presence of chemical functional groups in the composite was traced by Infra-Red Spectroscopy. The result from TGA showed that the prepared composite was found to be thermally stable up to 430°C.
