Abstract

Abstract: Thematic content analysis was used to examine 1, 151 tweets that mention the hashtags #YouKnowMe or #YouKnowUs, which trended in 2019 in response to anti-abortion legislation proposed in two U.S. states. Most tweets were pro-choice, centered on positive experiences, and focused on building community. Major themes in the data included personal abortion disclosures, general reflections on abortion, hashtag commentary, links and awareness raising, and a call to action . Individuals who disclosed their own abortions cited factors that influenced their decision. Tweets countered the belief that women regret abortion. Findings showcase the use of social media to raise awareness regarding abortion experiences.
