- Abstract: The influence of compositional fluctuation and lattice distortion on the oxidation behavior of Ti2 ZrTax refractory complex concentrated alloys (RCCAs) were revealed. Chemical complexity of Ti2 ZrTax results in the formation of various oxides, including saturated and unsaturated oxides, which reduces the protection of oxidized layer and leads to the high oxidation rate. When metastable Ti2 ZrTax alloys were oxidated and cooled in air, spinodal decomposition occurred in the matrix. The wavelength of spinodal decomposition and lattice distortion are dependent on the stability of alloys. Component fluctuation and lattice distortion make O atoms preferentially diffuse along the Zr-enriched region. Graphical Abstract: ga1 Highlights: Influence of the component fluctuation and lattice distortion on oxidation behavior of Ti2 ZrTax RCCAs were explored. The component complexity of Ti2 ZrTax leads to the fast oxidation rate. Spinodal decomposition occurs and lattice distortion alters in Ti2 ZrTax matrix during oxidating. The lattice distortion hinders the diffusion of oxygen atoms while the component fluctuation provides Zr-enriched diffusion path for oxygen atoms. Improving the oxygen resistance of RCCAs can by controlling component fluctuation and lattice distortion.
