- Abstract: Dysprosium (Dy 3+ ) falls in the category of Light Rare Earth Elements (REEs). Doping Dysprosium (Dy 3+ ) (2 wt%) using hydro thermal method with ZnO nanoparticles form a feasible composition for photo conversion. Undoped and Dy 3+ doped ZnO nanoparticles are synthesized and the material is subjected to various characterizations like XRD, HR-TEM and UV to collect the details about structure, morphology and the bandgap energy. The synthesized materials are proved to be spherical in morphology. The size of the undoped ZnO is calculated as 20.4 nm and Dy 3+ doped ZnO is calculated as 19.21 nm and the phases that present are 101, 002, 101, 102, 110, 103, 200, 112, 201 and 202. HR-TEM elucidates that the obtained materials were doped well and size of the particle is in conformity with the sizes obtained in XRD. The narrower bandgap resulted by the Dy 3+ doping proves to be better than its undoped ZnO form and it is vouched by UV analysis. The gathered results guarantee that the obtained Dy 3+ doped component can be utilized as a fitting material for the fabrication of DSSCs.
