- Abstract: A novel process for efficient conversion of CO2 to cyclic carbonates under atmospheric pressure in the absence of solvents has been achieved by using cheap and readily available multiple-amine material (PS-PEI) as a catalyst. As a metal-free catalyst, PS-PEI showed excellent catalytic activity and CO2 absorption capacity. PS-PEI can participate in the cycloaddition of a variety of epoxides and CO2 with high yields. The structure and catalytic performance of this polymer material do not change significantly after being recycled four times. Based on the results of experiments and characterization, a possible mechanism was proposed, in which the collaboration of amine groups and chloride ion promotes the efficient activation of CO2 and epoxides. Moreover, the effect of various reaction parameters, temperature, catalyst dosage, and reaction time were investigated to optimize the reaction conditions. Graphical Abstract: ga1 Highlights: 95% yield of chloropropane carbonate could be achieve for 14 h under ambient reaction conditions without any metal, solvent and co-catalyst. PS-PEIs preparation method is simple and promising for industrial production. The multisite synergistic activation of epoxide is adjusted by varying the ratio between the NH2 and Cl - .
