- Graphical abstract: Abstract: Quest for clean and cheap source of energy has resulted in the development of organic photovoltaics as a new avenue for conversion of solar energy to electrical energy. The use of cheap organic materials in the solar cells could significantly reduce the cost and enhance the ease of fabrication of conventional inorganic material-based solar cells. This paper briefly describes the organic photovoltaics devices (OPVs) including their basic operating principle, architecture and design, key parameters and organic materials used for their fabrication.
