- Abstract: In this study, an optically transparent magnetic material, i.e., magnetic transparent bamboo (MTB), was prepared by innovatively adding Fe3 O4 nanoparticles on the basis of transparent bamboo (TB). The delignified bamboo templates were filled with the epoxy resin and Fe3 O4 nanoparticles, MTB was tested, and the results were analyzed. The MTB with 2 wt% Fe3 O4 nanoparticles was considered to have the best comprehensive performance, having excellen optical properties with the light transmittance of 68.6%, haze of 49.4%, and a high tensile strength of 70.9 MPa. At the same time, it had a certain magnetic strength of 0.73emu/g, and the thermal conductivity of 0.213W/mk. Additionally, the effect of the amount of Fe3 O4 nanoparticles on the performance of MTB was investigated, providing the possibility of MTB applications in the magneto-optical fields, e.g., magnetic switches, electronic devices or building materials. Graphical abstract: Image 1 Highlights: Fabricated unique magnetic transparent bamboo (MTB) composites successfully. Explored effect of the amount of Fe3 O4 nanoparticles on MTB performance. As nanoparticle amount increases, magnetic intensity of MTB improves. This study proposed MTB to extend bamboo applications and help future in-depth research.
