Abstract

Abstract: Precast structures are concrete structures made in a factory and cured under proper supervision. It is fabricated in a quality-controlled environment and then shifted to the site ready to the erection. In a precast factory, the focus is made on different aspects like batching, testing, rebar work. Precast concrete applications include pipe culverts, facades, retaining walls, stadiums, and buildings. The present study aims to analyze the failure of the beam-column joint with dry mechanical and wet connections in a moment-resisting frame using the ABAQUS software. The dry mechanical connections include J-bolt and cleat angle with stiffener placed with M40 grade concrete and wet connection of M50 grade fiber concrete at frame joints. A numerical method in the finite element analysis software was developed and calibrated for results. The most important observations obtained are spatial displacement patterns, load vs displacement of J-bolt connection, cleat angle with stiffener connection, wet precast connections and a monolithic frame. Other parameters like interaction, convergence is also analyzed to find out the best-precast connection.
