- Abstract: A simple and efficient procedure for the synthesis of polyhydroquinolines (5a-l) was developed, involving one pot four component Hantzsch condensation of dimedone 1, various substituted benzaldehydes 2, ethyl acetoacetate (EAA) 3 and ammonium acetate 4 in the presence of catalyst praseodymium oxide (Pr6 O11 ) (10 mol%) in ethanol by irradiated with 150 W tungsten lamp. Mechanistic studies indicated that two possible pathways can be accounted for the four component synthesis of polyhydroquinolines. The key feature of these protocols is environmentally friendly, economic viability high yields, short reaction times, simple work-up procedure.
