Abstract

The purpose of the study is to substantiate the population census as an effective institutional tool for conducting socio-economic analysis of regional and national development for the implementation of state policy to improve the quality of life of the population. The authors analysed the results of population censuses dynamics in Russia, identified the main trends in the development of the country and its regions, as well as the causes of new social phenomena. The authors studied statistical information on the distribution of the population in Russia (educational, gender, age, financial, labour characteristics). The authors systematised the main users of information obtained as a result of population censuses, and also formed recommendations for the implementation of state policy to improve the quality of life of the population.
